Walvis Bay, translating to "Whale Bay," is a city in Namibia with an approximate population of 80,000. It is situated in a bay of the same name on the western side of the country. The bay has served as a safe haven for ships due to its naturally deep port, shielded by a sand spit from Punta Pelicano. The waters, rich in plankton and marine life, attracted a large number of whales, which in turn drew whaling ships and fishing vessels. Over time, a series of settlers took advantage of the strategic location and resources of this port. The port's significance in relation to the sea route around the Cape of Good Hope has garnered the attention of global powers since its discovery, leading to a complex political history for Walvis Bay. The city is located at the terminus of the Trans-Namib Railway to Windhoek and along the B2 road.
